ACLS Instructor Training Classes

The purpose of an ACLS Instructor Course is to develop proficiency in teaching, organizing, coordinating and conducting an ACLS Provider Course. ACLS Instructors must have a firm working knowledge and understanding of the ACLS material. They are also expected to demonstrate in-depth detailed knowledge of current emergency cardiac care. Participants learn to design a provider course to meet the needs of a specific student population. Currently accepted principles of adult learning, the ability to sequence instruction, the use of interactive teaching strategies and evaluation of student learning and progress are essential facets of this course.

Student Teaching:

Course participants will be required to conduct an ACLS Course after successful completion of the ACLS Instructor Course. A BHES TC Faculty will monitor the student teacher. After a successful evaluation, the student teacher will be provided with a course completion card and two-year certification as an ACLS Instructor.

Prerequisites:

The following documentation must be completed and submitted prior to the start of class for all students:

  1. Have a current AHA BLS and ACLS card; and either your BLS Instructor Candidate status (monitoring needed) or BLS Instructor card. Submit a copy of the aforementioned information upon registration.
  2. Complete the required ACLS online Instructor Essentials course which can be purchased directly from our site at checkout.
  3. Bring or purchase the ACLS Instructor Manual -or-ACLS Instructor Manual eBook. You can purchase your ACLS Instructor materials directly from our site at checkout.
  4. Current "American Heart Association" ACLS & BLS Provider Cards must be emailed to emathis@fltraining.com prior to class. Also, bring the cards with you to class. Only AHA provider cards are accepted. Therefore, please send a copy of your provider card before class.

To access the required ACLS pre-test, click here: https://elearning.heart.org/course/423. You must score an 84% or better in order to attend the ACLS Instructor Course. Bring printed scores with you, to class.

Please view the attached links: CPR / BLS Instructor Candidate AgendaFlorida Training Academy Instructor GuidelinesAmerican Heart Association Instructor Candidate Application. If you are requesting to become an affiliate instructor with Florida Training Academy, affiliation fees of $50 and successful monitoring are required before you will be authorized to order AHA certification cards. Florida Training Academy's affiliate instructors will also need to complete the Florida Training Academy Instructor Application.

UPDATE: ACLS and PALS instructor candidates are required to be successfully monitored twice, within 6 months of their instructor course. If there are no opportunities for monitoring in Jacksonville, instructor candidates will be required to drive to the training center, in St. Petersburg, to complete the 2 required monitoring sessions. Monitoring instructor candidates twice helps to ensure that all of our affiliated ACLS and PALS instructors are well-trained, and can abide by AHA/training center policies and guidelines.

Additional Fees: Annual affiliation fee of $50. This fee is charged to help with the costs of onboarding, mentoring, and the ongoing monitoring of AHA instructors.

Transfer Fees: If you are transferring from another TC, there is a $35 charge for the transfer process. We will also need rosters to show proof of the 4 classes that were taught within the last two years. We will also need to see your unexpired instructor card. If you cannot provide this information, you will need to take an initial instructor course.

Card Fees: BLS eCards are $9.50 each. All Heartsaver eCards are $27.50 each. ACLS and PALS eCards are $15.50 each.

How to order AHA eCards: Send an email to emathis@FLtraining.com indicating the type and quantity of eCards requested and an invoice will be submitted to you. Allow up to 96 business hours for receipt of eCards into your Card Inventory (AHA Instructor Network). Instructors cannot order eCards directly from the manufacturer, as per the AHA Program Administration Manual (PAM). Also, instructors with outstanding affiliation fees will not be permitted to order eCards.
