30 Hour IV Therapy Course for Florida Nurses

This course includes online theory and in-person skills validation sessions, designed specifically for licensed nurses seeking to enhance or expand their skills in intravenous (IV) therapy. Participants will gain hands-on experience in the initiation and management of common IV therapies.

Course Audience:

This program provides LPNs, Graduate Nurses (GNs), and Returning Nurses with essential knowledge and hands-on skills in IV therapy, including Central Venous (CV) line management.

The 30 hour IV Therapy course at Florida Training Academy consists of the following:

24-Hour Home Study

1. Online study materials and downloadable eBook
2. Course Modules with embedded tests (up to 6 months to complete)
3. IV Therapy Certification upon successful completion of the "hands-on" Skills Validation Session
4. Instructor support available via phone and email

6-Hour Hands-On Class (IV Skills Validation Session)
Practice IV therapy skills in a comfortable, supportive setting with experienced instructors. The hands-on class includes:

1. Peripheral line starts
2. Saline/heparin locks
3. IV site care
4. Drop factor calculations and piggybacking IV medications

Skills Performed in Class:

1. Central line dressing change
2. Flushing a Port-A-Cath
3. Drawing blood from a PICC line and peripheral site
4. Flushing a central line
5. Starting an IV: priming the line, spiking the IV bag, and practicing IV starts

Medical mannequins with realistic blood return are used. Students are encouraged to wear a dark or red shirt to class. For questions, contact our course coordinator at emathis@fltraining.com.

3. Attend the 6-hour in-person skills session.
4. Pass the post-test and clinical skills checklist.
